So much for give'em Hell, Harry. Senate quietly stripped measure restricting bonuses from bailout legislation.
A new revelation in the scandal surrounding AIG's decision to pay multi-million dollar bonuses to executives -- a provision that would have restricted companies receiving federal government bailout aid from paying bonuses was quietly stripped from a bill last month. The measure, introduced by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), was removed by negotiators in a late-night, close door meeting. In the negotiations, senators agreed to limit executive compensation but decided to forgo barring excessive bonuses -- in fact, they specifically exempted it. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) (above right) dodged a question about the decision when asked by a reporter."I'm wondering sir, if that was a mistake by Democrats to drop that and you wish you hadn't at this time?" the reporter asked. "I think we should look at what we did put in the bill," Reid replied. "We did put the Dodd language."
Give'em Hell Harry Reid "Missing In Action" from Fiscal Summit.(preview first 40 seconds).
I know, I know, Harry is a busy sorta beaver but you'd think he would make time for as pressing a matter as a fiscal summit - you'd think?
If the likes of duo obstructionists, Republican party leaders Senator Mitch McConnell (naturally no relation) and Rep. John "The Tan Man" Boehner found the time, why couldn't our Party's Majority leader? Even Nevada's next door neighbor and walking train wreck of a Senator [John McCain] managed to make it there spewing his two cents worth on the state of our republic.
When our nation elected a transformative figure like Barack Obama to lead our republic after EIGHT NIGHTMARISH YEARS of Bushevik insanity, what was needed in the senate was for our new president to have a transformative majority leader as well. A majority leader on the order of Lyndon Johnson when LBJ was the Democratic party's majority leader. A majority leader capable of moving heaven and earth (or die trying) in assisting with the DAILY real heavy lifting needed by his president to transform (CHANGE) our government into a government that serves the interests of WE THE PEOPLE - first, not the SELF SERVING interests of corporate America. Lyndon Johnson knew how to get things done, LBJ kicked ass and took names (dubbed the "Johnson Treatment") in spite of having a Republican president (Eisenhower) throughout his tenture as majortiy leader. Senator Reid isn't by any stretch of the imagination doing his fair share of the daily heavy lifting - for his party or his president. Senator Reid says,"he works with President Obama" -- thus far I'm having a bit of difficulty seeing were he's working with the president.
On this blog I plan to highlight Senator Harry Reid's unending ineptitude since his reelection in 2004. I plan to accomplish this by cronicling his political shortcomings backwards to 2004. Senator Reid was reelected in 2004 with the support of many Nevada Republicans for his strong support of [then] president Bush's invasion of Iraq in March of 2003. I decision we all know now to be the WRONG DECISION.
My plan is to oppose the senior senator from Searchlight, Nevada, for the Democratic party nomination in 2010. The Nevada Democratic primary is almost 13 months away and I'm in no hurry. I'm sure Senator Reid's ineptitude will continue unabated.
I'll do my best to keep it simple, although wrapping one's head around Harry Reid's political blunders since reelect in 2004 will leaving some Nevada Democrats staggering at the sheer mindlessness of his actions.
If successful I'll alleviate Americans from being publicly insulted by Nevada's senior senator's vile insights regarding the hygiene of hard working American citizens who pay his salary. Perhaps Senator Reid can find work in his post-senate years as LEAD HACK FOR THE MINING INDUSTRY the senator seems to love so much more than he loves us. Or perhaps Reid's many cattle industry campaign contributor buddies will hire him - they go back a long ways together.
